Waiting on Wednesday is a feature hosted by Breaking The Spine where I talk about books that I am eagerly anticipating!
This week, my WoW pick is…..
Shade Me by Jennifer BrownSeries: Nikki Kill #1
Published by Harper Collins on January 19, 2016
Genres: Young Adult, Mystery
Goodreads
Nikki Kill does not see the world like everyone else. In her eyes, happiness is pink, sadness is a mixture of brown and green, and lies are gray. Thanks to a rare phenomenon called synesthesia, Nikki’s senses overlap, in a way that both comforts and overwhelms her.
Always an outsider, just one ‘D’ shy of flunking out, Nikki’s life is on the fast track to nowhere until the night a mysterious call lights her phone up bright orange—the color of emergencies. It’s the local hospital. They need Nikki to identify a Jane Doe who is barely hanging on to life after a horrible attack.
The victim is Peyton Hollis, a popular girl from Nikki’s school who Nikki hardly knows. One thing is clear: Someone wants Peyton dead. But why? And why was Nikki’s cell the only number in Peyton’s phone?
As she tries to decipher the strange kaleidoscope of clues, Nikki finds herself thrust into the dark, glittering world of the ultra-rich Hollis family, and drawn towards Peyton’s handsome, never-do-well older brother Dru. While Nikki’s colors seem to help her unravel the puzzle, what she can’t see is that she may be falling into a trap. The only truth she can be sure of is that death is a deep, pulsing crimson.
While I’m not super crazy about the cover, I love mysteries where the detective has some sort of ability, especially if that ability is rooted in science.
What are you waiting on this week?
I actually like the cover! And this sounds awesome too! Great pick!
On the blog tour for this in January, and I can’t wait to read it. Does the cover model remind you of Jennifer Lawrence? Great pick!
Great pick, hope that you get a chance to read it soon
How interesting!! This is the first I’ve heard of this one, but I think I’ll have to add it to my TBR! I love the cover too! 😀
Here’s my WoW!
Her books ALWAYS sound SO good! This one sounds extremely good. I am going to have to try one soon. This is going on my humongous TBR list! LOL! Happy reading.

The premise of this one sounds kinda different, and I’ve always been interested in the phenomenon of synesthesia. It’ll be neat to see how it’s incorporated into the mystery plot. Thanks for putting this book on my radar!
Ooh really like the sound of this one! I’ve not heard of it before, but I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for it.
I like the girls face but not the font… This sounds really good though.

Hmmm, I had not heard about this one before and although like you I’m not too fond of the cover, I really like the sound of the mystery and the use of synesthesia in the story!
