Imagine: What if the fairies and star-crossed lovers of the forest had smartphones? A classic is reborn in this fun and funny adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays!

Four lovers who can’t decide who they have a crush on.
One mischievous fairy with a love potion.
Total chaos in the fairy world, the human world, and everywhere in between!

and h8. The classics just got a whole lot more interesting. 😉

tl;dr A Shakespeare play told through its characters texting with emojis, posting photos, checking in at locations, and updating their relationship statuses. The perfect gift for hip theater lovers and teens.

A glossary and cast of characters are included for those who need it. For example: tl;dr means too long; didn’t read.

Imagine: What if that tragic couple, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, had smartphones? A classic is reborn in this fun and funny adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays!

A prophecy from three witches.
A social-climbing couple committing a murder most foul.
A cover-up that spins way out of control.

Once again, the Shakespeare retold series has two more hilarious offerings. This time, they tackle A Midsummer’s Night Dream and Macbeth.  It’s been a looooong time since I’ve read either one of those plays. (Honestly, I don’t think I ever read A Midsummer’s Night Dream) but the beauty of these books is that the backbone of the story is intact, but with the hilarious use of texts and emoji.  I think these books are best appreciated by the Shakespeare lover because the humor in enhanced by your knowledge of the source material.  Macbeth, in particular, was especially hilarious.  The complicated and farcical love stories of A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream really worked well in this format, too.  Overall, I found both books to be very entertaining!

Random House is putting up both books for giveaway! You must be 13+ to enter and it’s open to US residents only. (You must have a physical address)

  1. Ah, I remember seeing coverage of these books in the Guardian and it really cracked me up. Dear old William, getting a facelift for the modern era.
