Welcome to another feature and follow Friday hosted by Alison Can Read and Parajunkee. This week’s featured bloggers are Badass Book Reviews and Book Den.
Q: Many readers/bloggers are also big music fans. Tell us about a few of your favorite bands/singers that we should listen to in 2012.
Oh Boy. Well, here’s the thing. I have a music degree. I taught music for 6 years before changing careers and ever since I graduated, lo those many years ago, I have been more and more annoyed with what is on the radio. I know I sound like an old lady, but these kids today and their music! Anyway, because I’ve done a lot of folk music research, I tend to gravitate towards bands that have a roots music kind of sound. One of my favorite discoveries has been Joy Kills Sorrow. They are out of Boston and I just love their simple sound. One of my favorite songs is called Books (awesome, right?). You can watch a live performance here.
Next week I’ll be at the ALA Midwinter convention in Dallas! If you’re going, leave a comment and let me know. We’re having a blogger meet-up and you can find the details here.
I’m also having a giveaway for an audiobook of Tempest by Julie Cross, which is a fantastic read. Check it out, if you’re interested!
I return all follows, so if you are a new follower, please let me know so I can visit you. Thanks for stopping by!
That performance is pretty awesome 🙂 I will have to check out some more of their stuff!

Wow you taught music for that long? That sounds so cool! Awesome choice!

Books is fitting! *lol*
I love this band, one of the best things about todays question is discovering all the new stuff!! Does this band have stuff on iTunes? (I’ll have to go look – because I love them!)
Check out my TGIF / Follow Friday post!
I kind of avoid the radio…Pop music has never been my thing. Happy Friday! My FF
Oh, I like that! It’s kind of folksy…which I love! I’ll have to check them out on my itunes 🙂
I’ll be at ALA midwinter! Yay! I’m so excited! Going Friday and Sunday with my sis from The Elliott Review. We have to miss Saturday which is a bummer, but oh well! I think I already replied to the blogger meet up. Should be fun!

Hi. Happy FF! New follower here. I agree about most of the stuff on the radio these days… it just sounds like noise.
Daniel @ Bound By Words
Thanks for stopping by – happy to return the visit (and the follow).
I have some friends who play a folksy kind of rock, all acoustic. It’s an interesting sound.
Here’s my FF
I’ll definitely have to check them out some more. New follower here! 🙂
here’s mine!
Thanks for stopping by. I agree with the crap on the radio. I have 2 teenagers and they listen to the most awful stuff!
Waiting For Wentworth
Hello- I am a new follower, and wanted to stop by. My resolutions are at http://www.csmaxwell.blogspot.com
Although I mainly read adult romance, I do go to YA for a great read.
New follower returning your follow, lol! Thanks for the new artist to check out 🙂
Alyssa
What a great sound! Thanks for the recommendation.

That is so cool you have a degree in music!
Thanks for following me. I am following you back!
Hope you have fun at ALA!
Love the music choice too!
Old follower hopping by!
Never heard of this band, but I’m def looking them up 🙂
Hahha, I’m ‘one of those kids’, but I hate the music nowadays! I can’t stand Nicki Minaj or Selena Gomez–whoever it is that people think are amazing this week. I’m more into rock, sure, but I enjoy older music, artists that my parents played as I grew up, like Phil Collins and Eric Clapton!
Thanks for the follow, and I’m now following back 🙂
Happy reading!
That’s wonderful that you actually have an informed taste in music. 🙂 Most of us are just kind of free-floating with our music picks. I think it’s great that you have such a strong musical background.
New follower from Follow Friday!
Happy weekend!!
Love to Read Romance!!
I’ve never heard of joy kills sorrow, but I’m going to get on iTunes right now!
Thanks for visiting my FF! Following you 🙂

Thanks for visiting my blog and following! I’m following back. Love the idea of a song named Books. I’m going to look it up.
Kelly
That’s hilarious, a song called books on a hop about books asking a music question 🙂
And nice, dreamy song 🙂 I like it 🙂
Following back! Thanks for stopping over!
I agree! music on the radio now is just beats & one chorus. While I like the GOOD rap, I would still pick sex/money/weed rapping over radio music any day. At least it has LYRICS.
old follower♥
My TGIF & FF ((:
-thank you&come again.
I could debate all of the music stuff, why I think it is down. The fact I don’t see rap as art, or music, the great loss of bands, but I won’t. There are still goods stuff out there! You just have to look for it, something many people won’t do.
