Feature and Follow Friday!

Welcome to another feature and follow Friday hosted by Alison Can Read and Parajunkee.  This week’s featured bloggers are  Badass Book Reviews   and  Book Den.

Q: Many readers/bloggers are also big music fans. Tell us about a few of your favorite bands/singers that we should listen to in 2012.

Oh Boy.  Well, here’s the thing.  I have a music degree.  I taught music for 6 years before changing careers and ever since I graduated, lo those many years ago, I have been more and more annoyed with what is on the radio. I know I sound like an old lady, but these kids today and their music!  Anyway, because I’ve done a lot of folk music research, I tend to gravitate towards bands that have a roots music kind of sound.  One of my favorite discoveries has been Joy Kills Sorrow.  They are out of Boston and I just love their simple sound.  One of my favorite songs is called Books (awesome, right?).  You can watch a live performance here.

Next week I’ll be at the ALA Midwinter convention in Dallas!  If you’re going, leave a comment and let me know.   We’re having a blogger meet-up and you can find the details here.

I’m also having a giveaway for an audiobook of Tempest by Julie Cross, which is a fantastic read.  Check it out, if you’re interested!

I return all follows, so if you are a new follower, please let me know so I can visit you.  Thanks for stopping by!

    Books is fitting! *lol*

I love this band, one of the best things about todays question is discovering all the new stuff!! Does this band have stuff on iTunes? (I’ll have to go look – because I love them!)

Check out my TGIF / Follow Friday post!

  2. Never heard of this band, but I’m def looking them up 🙂
Hahha, I’m ‘one of those kids’, but I hate the music nowadays! I can’t stand Nicki Minaj or Selena Gomez–whoever it is that people think are amazing this week. I’m more into rock, sure, but I enjoy older music, artists that my parents played as I grew up, like Phil Collins and Eric Clapton!

Thanks for the follow, and I’m now following back 🙂
    Happy reading!

  3. That’s wonderful that you actually have an informed taste in music. 🙂 Most of us are just kind of free-floating with our music picks. I think it’s great that you have such a strong musical background.

  4. That’s hilarious, a song called books on a hop about books asking a music question 🙂

And nice, dreamy song 🙂 I like it 🙂

Following back! Thanks for stopping over!

  5. I could debate all of the music stuff, why I think it is down. The fact I don’t see rap as art, or music, the great loss of bands, but I won’t. There are still goods stuff out there! You just have to look for it, something many people won’t do.
