Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Feel That Everyone Has Read But Me

Head over to The Broke and the Bookish for more Top Ten Tuesday lists! I should probably be embarrassed by some of the titles that are on this list, bit here are my top ten books that I feel everyone had read but me:

Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer
– Yes, I know.  I never read them and I can’t really tell you why.  I plan on it reading them, I swear.

Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling
 – I know this seems like sacrilege, but I have a good reason.  Before my husband and I had kids, we decided that neither of us would read the book until the kids were old enough so that we could read the series as a family.

Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty
– I keep hearing about this book over and over again.

Room by Emma Donoghue
– Everyone who reads this says that it stays with them, and it seems that I am one of the few that hasn’t dived in.  It’s on my bookshelf waiting for me to read it.

The Infernal Devices (series) by Cassandra Clare
 – I finally read The Mortal Instruments and I know that this will be just as good.

A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
– I run with a pretty nerdy crowd, so to admit hat I have never read this is a big step for me.  I don’t know why I didn’t read it.  I think I was too busy reading Jane Austen.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
– I swear I am going to read this, but for now, I live in painful ignorance off its supposed awesomeness.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
– I own this book, but I have not read it.

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
– I seem to know all about this book although I haven’t read it.  It’s like it has entered the collective sub-conscience of YA readers.  Maybe that’s the reason I keep pushing it to the end of the line.

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card
 – I’m not sure I will ever read this because of the bigoted and bizarre statements that the author has made, lately.  I’m not sure I can separate these statements from the book itself.

  1. Lol, I’m have yet to experience the awesomeness that’s rumored to be Outlander as well 😉
If you ever do read the Twilight series: SKIP Breaking Dawn. Seriously, that book was BAD!
And OMG, the Book Thief! I SO loved that book! Be sure to have tissues ready!
You actually have a good reason not to have read Harry Potter yet, but you could reread them as a family? The series is SO SO GOOD!!

  2. Ditto about Outlander. I’m waiting for the right moment to read it because if it’s as good as the hype then I’m going to want plenty of time to enjoy it!

  3. Hi Kate. I totally missed the Outlander series for my list. I even own books 1-3 and maybe # 5? lol. I love that you are saving HP for your family. When that time comes, the audio version is awesome.

    Have a great day!

    My Top Ten

  4. I forgot about Outlander too. I’ve just got so many fantasy series I want to read, it’s quite daunting, but I hear it’s a good one.

I hope that when your family reads HP that it makes your kids really enjoy reading. That’s what it did for me and I look back with fondness and appreciation that I got to read them

  5. I like the reason why you’re holding off on reading Harry Potter. It’s something that I hope to do in the future when I have a family of my own as well 🙂

  6. Your reason for not yet reading Harry Potter is one of the sweeteest things I’ve ever heard. I hope you, your husband, and your child enjoy discovering them together!

I just read Sloppy Firsts and all the rest this summer, and they’re really as good as everyone says! Definitely move them to the top of your reading list. As for Ender’s Game…well, I returned an unread book of OSCs to the library after his recent insanity so I know how you feel. But if I were to recommend one book of his in spite of everything, it’d be Ender’s Game. It’s a jewel of a book that was unfortunately written by a horrible person.

  7. I like your reason for not reading Harry Potter, which is one of my top favorite series 🙂
Also, you just have to read The Book Thief – amazing & one of the best books I’ve read.
I can understand your feelings about Card’s statements, but Ender’s Game is definitely amazing book!
I’ve also read the Hitchhiker’s Guide & it’s hilarious, so you should really read it!

  8. That is the sweetest most honorable reason to have not read the HARRY POTTER SERIES. Plus, if you’re interested in really nerding out with the books, I think reading the books for the first time along with Pottermore would probably be a cool experience!

  9. So many good books! Room is on my list too, but I don’t know if I’ll ever pick it up. Outlander made it onto a lot of lists this week — so you’re not alone. 🙂

Hitchhiker’s Guide is ridiculous. The humor is so British, it’s amazing.

  10. Just relax, plant some seeds, harvest some crops ‘
not a bad way to spend an evening. Don’t expect to learn the game fast
and definitely not without the right strategy. Should you adopt
two pets instead of one, you will then get the “Animal Shelter” ribbon.
