  1. I don’t exactly remember the author, but when I was a kid, I had this set of fairy-tales – not exactly the Disney version but not fully the Grimm version either – you could say they were toned down. In that I loved The Little Mermaid the most (it was not the Disney one). I was a big fan of fairy-tales then.
Later on, when I got was 13 something, Harry Potter was my favorite.

  2. I never liked classics. Like at all. It’s hard to admit even now that I’m starting to like them. I would say a children’s classic that I love now is… The Secret Garden. There is just something about that garden that enchants me.

  3. Emily

It has to be either Matilda by Roald Dahl or Anne Of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery had them on audiobook and listened to them on repeat, drove my family crazy 🙂

  4. I was (and still am) a huge fan of anything Jules Verne and my favourite was Miguel Stroggoff! Another two huge loves of mine in term of classics were Anna Frank’s Diary and Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte…

  5. Beth D.

I was a huuuugeee Anne of Green Gables fan when I was a kid. I had all of the books, and most of L.M. Montgomery’s other books, too.

I entered your Off To Oz Giveaway.
In response to your question of
What was your favorite classic book when you were a kid?
My favorite classic book as a kid was
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.
Thank you for having this giveaway!!!!!

  7. Ahhh.. i don’t remember. I do remember having lots of Clifford and BearStain Bears and lots of Princess books around the house. But the one that I do remember was Matilda (thank you those that reminded me). I loved Matilda!!

  8. Desnica Kumar

I’m sad to say that as a kid I didn’t really read a lot…but I read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and completely fell in love with it! I think thats when I really started reading more…Thanks for the giveaway!

  9. Elle @ Lost In Wonderland

I don’t know if it’s really classed as a classic, but I loved the ‘House at Pooh Corner’ by A.A. Milne

  10. Aline Tobing

My fave would be the Narnia series especially the first book, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

  11. I don’t really have a particular one. When I was a kid, we have this book which has I think 1000+ classic/fairy tale kind of stories. I love that book!

  12. asdewi

How “little” do you mean? As a kid, I always love Rapunzel. When I was in middle grade, I had big crush to Mr, Darcy from Pride & Prejudice

  13. Jennelle J

As a kid anything by Lucy Maud Montgomery was on my favorite list. I fell in love with the Anne Series right away.

  14. Kai W.

It was the Black Stallion series when I was a kid and then I ventured into the Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys series.

  15. andie

My mother used to read us – “Pilgrim’s Progress.” Little chunks each night and then start from the beginning.

  16. It’s a little-known book called “Cradle of the Deep”, by Jean M Auel. It’s written as an autobiography, from the 1920’s. Trouble it, it’s all, entirely, 100% fiction. James Frey style. Whoops!
I loved it, though- adventure on the high seas was my passion.

  17. Ellisa

I read Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder when I was a kid. I honestly don’t remember the plot and the storyline now, but I do remember loving it!

  18. My favorite book was (and it still has a place of love in my heart and I will read it in its original language, French, eventually, The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince).

Thanks for the giveaway and the chance to win S2 And may the odds be ever in my favor S2

  19. Little House On The Prairie, Anne of Green Gables, and The Secret Garden. I loved how the young girl had to overcome obstacles. These three taught me very valuable lessons about being strong.

  20. _Sandra_

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupéry was and still is one of my favorite classic books I’ve ever read.
    Thanks for a giveaway! 🙂

  21. Dorothy Teel

A classis book I enjoyed when I was a child is Heidi, or Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates, (gives you an idea of how old I am. lol)

  22. I absolutely LOVED Heidi. I also loved The Wizard of Oz. I loved the Brothers’ Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson’s Tales as well. Then, I had this book called Tales from Silver Lands. It was a book of fairy tales from around the world. I adored that book. Thanks for the giveaway. michelle_willms@yahoo.com

  23. Heather S

I loved Alice in Wonderland when I was growing up, i had a book that i carried around with me nearly everywhere.

  24. Lynn K.

Anne of Green Gables! Back then I didn’t have my own copy and I constantly borrowed the same book from the library. The little card at the back is filled with my names. xD

  25. BrittanyUtley

Probably Alice in Wonderland although I was really big into any fairy tales too. But I probably read Alice in Wonderland the most.

  26. Suz Reads

I loved the Nancy Drew series and the WIzard of Oz! Thanks for this amazing giveaway – I would love to win!

  27. Tiffany Drew

Cinderella has always been my favorite, although I do have some serious love for The BFG by Roald Dahl if that counts. Thank you!

  28. I’m not sure I even had a favorite classic when I was a child. I didn’t read a lot of classics until I got older, but I really loved movies based off of classics. Things like Anne of Green Gables and The Secret Garden. I don’t know if it counts, but I really loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

  29. Gabriella Pintac

I read To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee when I was in high school, and I really liked it 🙂

  30. Mirjam

I didn’t have just one favourite, but a few of the Dutch classics I loved as a child that have been translated in English are The Letter for the King by Tonke Dragt, Minnie by Annie M.G. Schmidt and Crusade in Jeans by Thea Beckman.

  31. What a neat giveaway idea! I absolutely loved The Wizard of Oz when I was a kid. I never actually read the books but the movie was my all time favorite. They’ve come out with a collector’s edition of the series that my mom is getting piece by piece. The spines make the city of Oz. It’s so neat.

My favorite classic books that I read when I was little was The Chronicles of Narnia. I read The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe about 6 times. A bit ridiculous but oh well!

Thanks for the great giveaway 🙂

  32. When I was little, almost all my books were classics – Enid Blyton, Little Women, The Little Princess – only I didn’t KNOW they were classics. There were just what my Mum gave me.

I think my favourite would have to be The Secret Garden. I keep meaning to reread it now, but I don’t want to ruin it if it doesn’t have the same magic!

  33. I have to say honestly, I hated books up until I was around 11 or 12 years old. Even after that, I really couldn’t get into classic books, they’re just not for me. I prefer modern stories. Retellings are fine though (:

  34. Meghan Stith

I didn’t really read classic books when I was a kid. I read some Beverly Cleary and some Judy Bloom but that was it. I did watch The Wizard of Oz and The Music Man non-stop though!

  35. Karen Arrowood

That sort of depends on what you call classic. I loved Little House on the Prairie, Black Beauty, all those sorts of books. I still own my original copies and am now sharing them with my daughter.

  36. Michelle N

I loved Anne of Green Gables when I was a kid & when the cartoon & tv show came out I also loved those.
    Thanks for the giveaway!
