I attended the ALA Midwinter convention in Dallas and was fortunate enough to come home with a lot of books. There has been some controversy surrounding bloggers being at these conventions and there are some very unhappy librarians who have been vocal about their disdain for bloggers. It is not ok for anyone to grab multiple copies of a book just to have multiple copies of a book. It is not ok to push and shove, either. I think we can all agree on that point, yes? I had a fantastic time at ALA and met wonderful bloggers, publishing reps and librarians. I am a book blogger that got a lot of books, but I also support my local library. I donated books before I even thought about starting this blog and if I stopped blogging tomorrow, I would still donate books and support every person’s right to have access to libraries. I hope that we can move beyond this whole issue because I really feel that librarians and book bloggers have common interests and passions.
The books I got at ALA represent one half of my reading goal this year. I will read them all. After I read and review them, I will donate most of them to schools, libraries and a local nursing home, if they want them. I will be giving some of them away on my blog because I like giving books away on my blog. I do it a lot and it makes me happy to see someone excited about winning a book that they really want to read.
Here are the books that I was most excited about:
A Want So Wicked by Suzanne Young
Heading Out To Wonderful by Robert Goolrick (The Algonquin rep actually quoted from the book when I spoke with him about it, which I loved because he felt to strongly about it. I’m really excited to read this one!)
Black Heart by Holly Black
Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver
Dreamless by Josephine Angelini
I will be giving these books away on my blog after I read and review them.
Before I get started on my paper ARCs, I will be reading books from NetGalley this week –
Red Heart Tattoo by Lurlene McDaniel
Books I bought (ebook)
The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter
So, there you have it. I’m sorry this post was so wordy. Thanks for sticking with me!

Nothing wrong with being wordy!!!! It’s your blog – your opinions! Who else is going to say what needs to be said! I’m a new blogger who’s feeling their way thru this community and I’ve been hearing negativity about bloggers only bragging about the free galley’s they get, etc. Now hearing that we’re getting a bad rep for hoarding books – yikes!! I buy all my books, I don’t even know how to get on NetGalley! I’m do this as a hobby and to support the authors, to get the word out about their works. Does anyone else do that? I’m sure you do!!!! 🙂
Glad you had a great time at ALA!! Here’s my IMM

SCARLET! Can’t wait to read that one! And that’s so exciting you got to go to ALA! 🙂
It’s breaking my heart that everyone feels the need to apologize for what I’m sure was just a handful of people’s bad behavior. It’s awesome that you’re donating or giving stuff away – sharing the love! I think as long as you make the effort to share each book you got (either by giving it to someone or by reviewing it) then it’s totally justified to have taken it.
I can’t wait to read Pandemonium, I loved Delirium so much. I’m looking forward to your thoughts on Heading Out To Wonderful – if the rep was that excited, I bet it’s awesome!

Great books this week! I hope you’ll enjoy them all 🙂 Happy reading 🙂
As a librarian and a blogger, I’m distressed to hear that some of my fellow librarians were not behaving properly. Here’s hoping that this won’t happen again for a long, long time.
On to the books, holy schnikies, you really have some haul there. 🙂 I regret to getting to ALA Mid-Winter, but I am looking forward to TLA this year! Here’s hoping I’ll get to meet some great authors, bloggers, and librarians there.
Happy reading! 🙂
Great set! Loved Goddess Test. A Want So Wicked sounds really great.
