Publisher: Bloomsbury
Release Date: 1-5-10
Zara and her friends knew they hadn’t solved the pixie problem for good. Far from it. The king’s needs grow deeper every day he’s stuck in captivity, while his control over his people gets weaker. It’s made him vulnerable. And now there’s a new king in town. A turf war is imminent, since the new pixie king, Astley, is moving in quickly. Nick nearly killed him in the woods on day one, but Zara came to his rescue. Astley swears that he and Zara are destined to be together, that he’s one of the good guys. Nick isn’t buying it, though Zara isn’t as sure — despite herself, she wants to trust the new king. But it’s a lot more than her relationship with Nick that is at stake. It’s her life — and his. – Goodreads

Zara’s life is anything but normal now that she knows her father is a pixie and her boyfriend is a shape shifter.  Now that the pixies are captured and her father trapped, a pixie war is almost unavoidable.  Zara, Nick and their band of loyal friends are trying their best to predict what might happen next and protect Zara, if at all possible.  There is a lot of Nick Growling at Zara ad a lot of Zara foolishly running off into the woods.  However, a new pixie king in town complicates things because he’s not entirely unlikable and the consequences of his almost likability could have huge consequences for Zara…..and Nick.  There was plenty of fighting and blood in this book and even a little flying, which keep things moving, no pun intended.

I’m not totally sold on Astley, at this point.  I realize that there will be more to his story, of course, but I was hoping to knwo a little bit more about him.  I also felt like Nick’s character development kind of stalled in this book, although after what happens to him, I’m sure he’ll do some major changing in the next book.  I did enjoy this book, but I felt it wasn’t as strong as the first.  There was a lot of setting up for what happens next, so I’m hoping for some major action and adventure in book 3.
