It isn’t easy being the rather overlooked and unhappy youngest sibling to sisters named for the other six days of the week. Sunday’s only comfort is writing stories, although what she writes has a terrible tendency to come true. When Sunday meets an enchanted frog who asks about her stories, the two become friends. Soon that friendship deepens into something magical. One night Sunday kisses her frog goodbye and leaves, not realizing that her love has transformed him back into Rumbold, the crown prince of Arilland—and a man Sunday’s family despises. The prince returns to his castle, intent on making Sunday fall in love with him as the man he is, not the frog he was. But Sunday is not so easy to woo. How can she feel such a strange, strong attraction for this prince she barely knows? And what twisted secrets lie hidden in his past – and hers? – Goodreads

The core of this story was The Princess and The Frog, but with a cast of characters that intertwined a large variety of other fairy tales to make one big, and very charming, adventure.  Sunday is “doomed to live a happy life” and you get the sense that she feels a little out of place.  Her writing comes true, her family has known tragedy and she’s developing feelings for a frog.  The romance that unfolds is sweet and a little strange, but only in the best way.  As her family’s story is told, Sunday’s world starts to expand and she discovers that she has strength she never knew.

I have to say that as trite as it may sound, I found this story to be enchanting.  I loved trying to figure out the different fairy tales in the story and I also enjoyed seeing Sunday grow into someone who sought answers rather than accepted everything she was told.  The story of the prince and his wooing of Sunday was both sweet and filled with just enough intrigue to keep the pages turning.  This was a quick read, but on that I really enjoyed.

I like this sound of this fairytale variation, and it’s nice to see other fairytales integrated into this story. You don’t often see more than one fairytale in an updated or reinvented story. Great review, Kate, I can’t wait to read Enchanted. 🙂
