When plain and unpopular Annie Nutter gets zapped by one of her dad’s whacked-out inventions, she lands in a parallel universe where her life becomes picture-perfect. Now she’s Ayla Monroe, daughter of the same mother but a different father—and she’s the gorgeous, rich queen bee of her high school. In this universe, Ayla lives in glitzy Miami instead of dreary Pittsburgh and has beaucoup bucks, courtesy of her billionaire—if usually absent—father. Her friends hit the clubs, party backstage at concerts, and take risks that are exhilarating . . . and illegal. Here she’s got a date to lose her V-card with the hottest guy she’s ever seen. But on the inside, Ayla is still Annie. So when she’s offered the chance to leave the dream life and head home to Pittsburgh, will she take it? The choice isn’t as simple as you think. – Goodreads

When awkward Annie has the worst day of her life, having to deal with her parents fighting over her dad’s inventions is the last straw.  It;s the invention that has her landing in an alternative universe that seems to be the life she could have had if her mom hadn’t ended up with her dad.  Annie tries to navigate life in a body that is more attractive in a life that’s moves much faster than the one she was used to.  It made me really respect Annie when she decided not to keep behaving like Ayla and stay true to who she was on the inside.

I loved the Freaky Friday aspect of this book.  There is no better way to appreciate your life than to be thrown into someone else’s, literally or figuratively.  What was wonderful about this story, was that Annie was given every kind of privilege and the physical appearance she always wished she had, and yet, she still isn’t sure if it’s really what she wants. The sci-fi aspect of the book was really fun to read, as well.  When the boy she likes has the knowledge to help her, things get very complicated.  I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by how much was packed into a relatively short book and how it went from funny, to thoughtful, to exciting in one story.  This book is fun and definitely belongs on any summer reading list for YA.
