This book was a hot item at ALA Midwinter because so many have grown to love Jodi Picoult’s work. For this book, she teamed up with her daughter, Samantha. I wasn’t sure what to expect because Jodi Picoult’s books are always emotionally challenging, but this story was clearly conceived by someone who loves books and the story was a light and refreshing read. There were clever and imaginative touches throughout the book that built a world outside and inside of the story within the story. Without being syrupy, Delilah and Oliver’s relationship is cute and his life inside the book was a very inventive aspect of the story.
I loved Delilah. I think that anyone who has ever loved a book so much that they wanted to be in it, will love her, too. Books are her escape and as her relationship with Oliver progresses and she becomes more determined to get him out, her real life starts to fade away in pursuit of her goal. It was this aspect of the story that I really liked. Through journey that Delilah takes to try to free Oliver, she learns that the life she wants is actually out there and she is capable of having it. Between the Lines was a sweet and entertaining story that will appeal to adults and to a wide range of YA readers.

Great review, Kate! I don’t think I’ve ever read a Jodi Picoult book (I know!), but I’ve been curious about this book. I know she and her daughter will be here in a couple weeks, so maybe I’ll check it out then!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts <3
I have not ever read a Jodi Picoult book, even though I have a few of hers on my shelf. I’m interested in this one and will probably give it a read this year.

This book sounds like something I’d want to read, for sure. I’ve read and liked Jodi Picoult’s books, but the fact that this one was written with her daughter and features a protagonist who loves books about as much as I do definitely sells me on it.
Books about books make me happy. This sounds like a very cute story and, in a way, I seem to relate to the main character. Gonna have to check this one out!
I really want to read this one. I’m a huge Jodi Picoult fan so I’d love to see how she does with YA fiction.
I’m about to start this book today. It looks adorable. Thanks for your thoughts!
